What is "TCM"?

TCM stands for Traditional Chinese Medicine.  TCM utilizes acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, exercise, meditation, and dietary practices to attain balanced vitality.  Many of these practices have been utilized for over 3500 years.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes. Acupuncture has no unpleasant side effects & does not interfere with any medical treatment you may already be receiving. Occasionally patients may get a small local bruise or feel light-headed for a few moments. The acupuncture itself is as gentle or strong as the patient needs. Highly sensitive patients only require a very light touch in order to get results. There is usually an overall sense of deep relaxation.

Please note: Our needles are sterile, are almost as thin as a human hair, are not hypodermic and are only used one time. Bleeding rarely occurs, unless done so on purpose in specific situations. Even then the amount is minimal and in no way dangerous.

What Health Conditions Does Acupuncture Treat?

The World Health Organization has determined that acupuncture is an effective therapy for over 200 clinical conditions, including:

  • Backache & Sprains
  • Insomnia & Low Energy
  • Digestion & Stomach Disorder
  • Neck & Shoulder Pain
  • Repetitive Stress Syndrome (including carpal tunnel syndrome)
  • Migraines & Headaches
  • Alcohol, Food, & Tobacco Addiction
  • Osteoarthritis & Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Respiratory Problems
  • Gynecological Disorders
  • Circulatory Disorders
  • Nervous System Disorder
How Does Acupuncture Help?

Acupuncture works to redirect and rebalance Qi & Blood. Qi & Blood travel in well-defined pathways throughout the body and link with the skin, muscles, organs, brain and uterus. Pain, illness and discomfort are symptoms of blocked or disrupted energy flow & the causes and origins of any blockage determine which acupuncture points will be stimulated. As harmonious flow is restored, the entire body benefits and symptoms tend to disappear. Herbal Medicine can increase the effectiveness of your acupuncture treatment & is often the primary treatment for chronic internal medical disorders.

What Treatment Modalities are included in an acupuncture session?

Acupuncture
The insertion of thin, stainless steel needles into selected points on the body to tonify, sedate & recirculate Qi & blood.

Moxabustion
The herb Artemisia Vulgaris is burned over certain areas or points to warm the body, expel cold, disperse damp and move qi & blood.

Cupping
A vacuum is created in a glass cup using fire. The cup is then placed on a body part to draw out pathogenic factors such as wind, cold, damp & heat.

Gua Sha
This simple & ancient technique uses a soft-edged tool to scrape the skin to expedite the healing process or to relieve pain & tension.

Electrical Stimulation
The use of electrodes to enhance needle sensation is used to relieve muscular tension & treat neurological disorders.

Do You Accept Insurance?

For nearly 10 years, Sage Wellness has worked with multiple insurance companies because we thought it would be beneficial to the wellbeing of our patients.  When we initially started with insurance, there were growing pains but we worked through them.  There were a few people that had exclusive enough plans to cover what is considered “alternative/experimental” medicine and we processed there claims and they did pay.  Unfortunately, the pay was lower than market value and the process was long and tedious.  Now that health insurance isn’t only for those fortunate enough to be able to afford it, the environment around how insurance works and what they will cover has changed.  Over the past year it has become more and more difficult to keep up with the changing fee schedules and coverage options for our patients.  We don’t want to have to create a separate legal and billing department to deal with insurance companies because it would mean having to raise the costs of treatments substantially.  Therefore, until the insurance companies become consistent and easier to work with, we will no longer be working with insurance companies.  We will do our best to accommodate your financial situation by keeping our prices low.
